January 16, 2022Beware the breeder WHO IS NOT.
Tyler Johnson at healthydoodlepaws.com is using Pikes Peak Vet and Dr. Fowler’s names as if we had seen and cared for puppies, which we haven’t because there aren’t any. We were alerted when someone who was interested in one of his puppies called to ask us for information about them. Of course, we couldn’t verify anything because we don’t know this person and he has never brought any dogs to our clinic.
The Humane Society of the United States suggests that you “skip pet stores and internet sites and consider a shelter or rescue first.” If you must have a specific breed do your homework. “Find a responsible breeder and visit the premises! Responsible breeders provide a loving and healthy environment for their canine companions, one that they will be proud to show you. You should never buy a puppy without seeing where the dog and their parents were raised and housed with your own eyes, no matter what papers the breeder has. Beware: AKC and other types of registration papers only tell you who a puppy’s parents were, not how they were treated.
“Don’t believe promises that puppies are ‘home-raised’ or ‘family-raised’. Many puppy millers pose as small family breeders online and in newspaper and magazine ads. [The HSUS has] often helped local authorities in the rescue of puppy mill dogs. In almost all cases, the puppy mills sold puppies via the internet using legitimate-looking ads or websites that made it look like the dogs came from somewhere happy and beautiful—claims that couldn’t have been further from the truth.”
Tyler claims to be a licensed breeder. His website says he has been “fully inspected and licensed by our local council and their approved vet,” yet he doesn’t list who those organizations or veterinarians are. He collects a non-refundable deposit, but it seems that no one gets a puppy. He doesn’t allow on-site visits “before the puppies are six weeks old,” and his adoption process says you can see pictures on Instagram, but we cannot find anything about him or his pups there. There are no links to any social media pages on his website. We did find a Facebook page with many, many posts, ALL from May of 2021 only, no posts on any other date. Please be careful and do your homework!
