Veterinarians Legally Cannot Take Back Your Pet’s Drugs

Breed Specific: The Shiba Inu, independent, yet adaptable
November 16, 2022This November, return unused antibiotics to us for proper disposal. Read on to find out how to anonymously be part of the study as to WHY you didn’t use what was prescribed.
We all know that antibiotics are an extremely helpful medical tool when used properly. We also know that they can be over-prescribed and sometimes people don’t use all of the doses they are prescribed, whether for themselves or their pets. The extra medications often get disposed of down the toilet, a HUGE no-no, and are causing damage to the environment, and impacting water quality and wildlife.
Additionally, when you don’t use up the prescribed doses of an antibiotic, it actually leads to anti-microbial resistance (AMR). That means that the microbes aren’t all dispatched and learn to outsmart the next round of antibiotics you throw at them.
We want to make sure you dispose of any unused antibiotics appropriately AND you follow through with your veterinarian’s orders in the future. In November, we’ll take back any extra pills/capsules that you have to make sure they don’t contribute to the aforementioned environmental issues. Just drop them off to our wonderful client care team. Then, if you have time, there is a research project that wants to understand why people don’t use antibiotic prescriptions as designated. This is an anonymous survey, so click here to access the study questionnaire.
We want all of us to live in a world where we take care of each other and the planet. This is an easy step for everyone to take! Thanks for participating and being conscious about your choices.
